Commonly known as silica fume, Microsilica is a type of aluminous and siliceous elements that tend to react when comes in contact with calcium hydroxide under normal temperature. The reaction produces compounds having cement like attributes. Silica fume is instrumental in enhancing permeability and modifying pore construction of cement. The presence of silica in cement promotes dispersion of damaging ions in order to enhance sulphate resistance properties of cement. Microsilica tends to produce calcium silicate hydrate by reacting with calcium hydroxide. As suitable admixture, this product is effective in enhancing characteristics of hardened and freshly applied concrete. Apart from preventing carbonation, it improves electric and chemical resistance capacity of concrete used for construction of high rise buildings. Most importantly, it safeguards concrete against leaching.
